We are a mixed ( Year10/12) age group of enthusiastic, motivated and creative students who are working with our Art teacher on a project to develop our skills in organising, promoting and co-ordinating a ‘Creative Arts Event’. We intend this event to showcase the wide variety of creative skills and Arts practice that takes place in our school.

We would like to explore exciting arts practice as well as develop the skills to organise and co-ordinate an event that will take place in a public space in Redditch.

For this project we are looking for a practitioner to work with us, we imagine that you might be a visual artist, an event organiser and designer/artist with the skills and knowledge to help develop our own creative practice as well as being able to help us plan and co-ordinate this event.

We would like somebody who can help us to showcase our schools creative nature in an imaginative manner, someone who is passionate about their work and are prepared to work with us in a constructive and collaborative way.

We will be running this project in our timetables lessons on Wednesdays from 9am – 1.20pm, the timeslot will be organised as follows: 12 Year 12 students (9-11am), 16 Year 10 students (11.20 – 1.20pm)

We have recently become a Creative Partnerships Enquiry School, and for our enquiry project, we are looking for a practitioner who will work with us on transforming an underused outdoor area in our school. The area we are looking at is a roofed area by the side of the school facing onto the playground, which is mostly used for sheltering from bad weather.

Our enquiry question is:
How does creating an outside learning environment impact upon the attainment of a Year 5 class?

Through this project, we wish to explore how a group of children taking an active role in planning, creating and utilizing an outdoor learning environment, impacts upon their progress and attainment.
Through their involvement in such a project, we hope to capture the children's interest and imaginations, thus allowing them to become creative thinkers and learners. They will be fully involved in designing the area of the school which will give them ownership and which will produce an enhanced learning environment that will benefit all children at the school.

The project is to start as soon as possible and we are hoping to have a launch event in the summer term 2011.
We would like to plan the details of contact time and frequency in close collaboration with our Creative Agent & Lead Teacher.

We are looking for an inspirational and dedicated practitioner who will help us develop the project. We are hoping to learn strategies for our teaching and learning in how to engage all our pupils better. We have left the brief deliberately open, so the practitioner can form the project with the pupils and staff.

The project budget is up to £2,500 for practitioner fee (includes travel) with a additional budget for materials and a launch event.

We are looking for an exceptional creative practitioner who can help us transform the space in close collaboration with the teacher & pupils. We are open to your practice- the outcome will have to be a transformed space, though.

We are a class of year 9 pupils working with our Art teacher on a project where we are exploring the following question:

“How can we improve our corridors & public areas to make them more friendly and representative of our school?”

For this project we are looking for a practitioner to work with us, we imagine that you might be an interior designer, architect, graphic designer, graffiti artist or visual artist. We want somebody to help us build an approach with which, we can convince people that we can affect change in the building. We also have agreement to change one area in the school-so this is a real project.
The most important thing for us is that you are passionate about your work and that you are prepared to work with us in a co-constructive and collaborative manner.

For this project we have identified one or two areas of the school that could be improved through simple but ambitious ideas. We will be running this project in our timetabled lessons on Thursdays and there will be some full days also in the project.

About St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School

This is St Bartholomew’s third Enquiry project with Creative. We want to build on what we have learnt over the last two years, particularly with regard to the successes of pupil-led creative learning.

We are looking for an expert practitioner/s who will help us explore the following enquiry:

How can film-making, combined with drama, through a cross-curricular approach, encourage our pupils to see beyond wanting to 'get it right', and empower them to take ownership of their learning through questioning, experimenting, and taking more risks?

Aims:

This project aims to:

• encourage pupils to challenge their own ideas of what’s possible and what they are capable of, through exploration and taking risks

• provide a more meaningful and exciting context to improve pupils’ writing

• empower children to lead their own learning processes and make their own decisions about what they want to pursue

• help staff to allow children to lead their learning

Brief:

We are open to receiving applications from individuals offering us both film-making and drama skills, from individuals offering just one of these areas of expertise, and also to joint applications which cover both areas.

We would like the practitioner/s to:

• research film-making equipment and software and advise the school on what to buy with the budget available (up to £1,000)

• inspire pupils and staff with new creative approaches to pupil-led learning, in particular through activities which lead to writing in some form or another

• listen to, be inspired by, and help realise our children’s ideas for the content of the project

• help staff and pupils gain confidence and new skills – not only in film-making and drama, but also in decision making, problem solving, communication and their understanding of the learning process

The practitioner/s would work with one Year 3 class of 30 pupils.

Timescale and Fee
Total fee: £2,800, including travel, planning, reflection and evaluation time, with an additional budget for equipment.

Dates: between Jan and April 2010, ideally in weekly sessions. Joint planning will take place in school before Christmas.

Project Management
The successful applicant will be contracted directly by St Bartholomew’s Primary School which has already secured Creative Partnerships funding to support this commission. In addition to support provided by Black Country Creative Partnerships (BCCP), St Bartholomew’s is also working with a Creative Agent, a freelance creative professional employed by BCCP to act as a critical friend, broker and creative advisor.

Selection
All applicants must have:
• a highly developed and reflective practice
• experience of working with KS2
• skills in film-making and drama facilitation, and an ability to communicate these skills effectively to pupils and staff
• a commitment to genuine collaboration with staff and pupils
• an interest in how people learn, and a belief in child-led learning

The Turves Green Titans are looking for a creative practitioner to work with us on a Robot Wars Project.

We are a group of 7 students from year 8, 9&10 who are the steering group on a project to start an after school club based on the Robot Wars. The club aims to engage pupils who normally don’t take part in clubs ( and have fun while learning). We also think there might be potential to link to science & technology subjects. The group size we are planning to work with is 20 pupils of different ages.

But for now we are looking for a person who can help us make this happen and can work with us to design, build & compete robots to get started!

We have a big vision to maybe start involving other schools in the long-term and support them in setting up a similar club! We also want the club to carry on once the original support from Creative Partnerships has finished, so sustainability is important.

We are looking for an exceptional practitioner who:
-can help us make the robots
- can work with a group of about 20 boys
- takes young people seriously
- can enable us to make the robots & and not do it for us

Creative Partnerships Change School Programme 2010-2011

Background
Creative Partnerships is the Government’s flagship creative learning programme, designed to develop the skills of young people across England, raising their aspirations and equipping them for their futures. We foster innovative, long-term partnerships between schools and creative professionals, including architects, scientists, multimedia developers and artists. These partnerships inspire young people, teachers and creative professionals to challenge how they work and experiment with new ideas.

Young people develop the skills they need to perform well not only in exams and extra-curricular activities, but also in the workplace and wider society.

Context
The school is a relatively small technology college with approximately 650 boys serving the Longbridge district of Birmingham. A small number of the pupils are from minority ethnic communities and standards on entry are broadly average. About one fifth of pupils, an average proportion, are on the special needs register. The school was one of the first to be designated a specialist technology college in 1995. There are extensive links with other schools within the south western districts of Birmingham and shared sports facilities with the adjacent girls' school.
The school became part of the Change Schools programme in September 2008. The Change Schools programme builds on Creative Partnerships current practice to bring about sustainable change in approaches to teaching and learning. We have made a firm commitment to putting creativity at the heart of our improvement plans and to educating children and young people for a creative future.

Focus, Aims and Requirements
The Change Schools programme focuses on generating long-term dialogue about creative teaching and learning, and how the school can become a more effective creative learning environment. A paid professional learning programme for new creative practitioners wanting to work in education.

Due to the success of the 09-10 Black Swans programme, Black Country Creative Partnerships and Creative Alliance are running the programme again.

The programme offers a paid training opportunity for people who would like to work in education as a creative practitioner.

Practitioners may be chefs, mathematicians, poets, visual artists, drama workers, technicians: in fact anyone who wants to share their unique practice with children and young people, and their teachers and families.

At one time everyone in Britain thought swans were always white until someone went to Australia and brought back a black one! Are you someone who can help children and educators explore those possibilities and question the obvious; make improbable connections and stretch imaginations?

Well if you are, then the Black Swans professional learning programme could be just what you need to develop the knowledge and skills to work within education.

As part of the Black Swans professional learning programme you will receive:

•10 days work in a Creative Partnerships school to devise, develop and deliver a project in line with the school’s enquiry question and an all inclusive fee of £1000 to do this.*

Grove Community Project, a small independent nursery (for children aged 2-4) in Handsworth, Birmingham has just been awarded a grant from Youth Music for a year-long early years music project. As well as employing me as their Music Leader for 20 days they are also looking for someone to work with me on a more regular basis at the nursery for 40 days across this academic year. The person that we had in mind now has other work and is unable to do it. At very short notice we are looking for someone to take up this exciting opportunity.

My role will be to deliver CPD, deliver some practical activity (both at Grove and the nearby nursery class of James Watt Primary School), support the relationships between the music leader and nominated early years practitioner, mentor the musician, support reflective practice and documentation, and look at music provision across the nursery.

We are looking for a musician who would deliver the weekly practical activity at the nursery. It would suit a musician who is open to child- initiated/adult responsive ways of working and who maybe has some experience of this. It would suit someone who has experienece of early years music but is maybe looking to build a longer-term relationship with a setting and develop their practice. It would be extremely helpful if they had Mondays or Tuesdays free. The fee is £175 per day.

The project is managed by Sarah Wood who is project manager for Grove Community Project.

INHABIT: Vacant spaces to vibrant places

Overview

Inhabit is part of the Empty Spaces initiative. It’s a programme of activity part funded by DCLG to re-invigorate local high streets and raise community confidence in local spaces. It aims to support local areas during the economic downturn, reviving shopping centres by transforming vacant spaces into vibrant places. As a result of further funding from Arts Council England, we are able to offer further commissions.

Our approach is to provide a pleasant place for people to meet, have a cup of tea, enjoy taking part in creative workshops or simply talk and share stories about what the local high street used to be like and how it could be in the future. The activities will take place throughout 2010 and across Birmingham in Erdington, Hodge Hill, Ladywood, Perry Barr and bringing everything together at the Pavilions in the city centre.

Artists Commissions

As part of Inhabit there are a small number of artist’s commissions available. We have transformed the first empty shop at 173 Hagley Road, Ladywood, into a local tearoom. Tea has shaped England’s national identity, but was first brought to the country from India and China. Newer communities have very different relationships to tea, and to the manner and space in which it is, and isn’t, drunk. We believe that this provides us with a route to draw individuals and communities out of their houses and into the local tearoom. The tearooms recognise this curiously English tradition but also its global roots.

The commissions should therefore pick upon but not be constrained by the notion of transforming space, community engagement and participatory led activity. At the core of the work should be a strong concept but one that is easily communicated to those unfamiliar with the arts sector and who may not have engaged with the arts in any depth. We expect artists to be committed to and interested in how the arts can work as a catalyst towards social and community development.

All artists commissioned must regularly contribute to Hybrid’s forum/ blog on this subject.

Artists will be required to work across two shops, or for the inter-disciplinary commission collate materials from all shops, with the final display taking place in the city centre shop at the Pavilions.

Each of the commissions (apart from the Open Brief commissions) has a budget attached to enable ‘Mentoring Connections’. We will therefore work with you to identify routes for development to explore how you can further your professional and creative development.

The commissions:

Promenade

(Fee £7, 500 to include all expenses, Up to £1, 000 mentoring connection)

Taking each empty High Street space as a starting point, we wish to commission a promenade performance that propels participants through the history and culture of the local High Street. This could involve using drama, theatre or audience engaged in exploration to see more of the High Street. This may include other shops, local buildings such as places of worship, public art in the vicinity as well as activities and work in our Inhabit unit. We want to surprise the participants, make them stop and think and in essence encourage them to revisit the High Street after we have gone. Ideally this promenade would be aimed at a mix of age ranges, we don’t want to exclude people who haven’t previously engaged in promenade style work, the work must be accessible and consider how to draw people on a learning journey – both about art and their local High Street.

We are interested in talking to artists who are excited at the possibilities that this commission presents. We would seek to have a promenade performance in at least two High Streets, with the potential of applying the promenade to other areas. This may mean having a template that is then adapted to each area. To complement the promenade we would like a ‘trail’ created that could be taken by families on their own (similar to those created by heritage sites or museums) as those who are able to access the performed promenade are likely to be limited in number.

Word based

(Fee £5, 000 to include all expenses, up to £1, 000 mentoring connection)

We are interested in exploring the possibility of drawing upon words/ text in the spaces. We are including within this text/ language/ literature/ spoken word/ calligraphy/ typography. This commission needs to incorporate community/ participant involvement. We would like to add to the atmosphere of the tearooms, and develop its theme by exploring the possibility of a commission that considers the written and spoken word. The thinking behind this commission are the conversations that were and are held in tearooms, what are the topics of conversation today, what themes could or should be encouraged?

We are interested in hearing from performers/ writers/ visual artists who have created contemporary work and have an interest in developing their practice in new ways, keeping word/ text at the heart and working across languages. If you work in one area, you may wish to collaborate with another artist to deliver this element.

Reminiscence/ Film / Animation/ Drama

(Fee £7, 500 to include all expenses, up to £1, 000 mentoring connection)

We are looking for an artist, partnership, collaboration or group to deliver an inter-disciplinary arts commission. The commission will pick upon local residents’ stories and produce an audience experience that draws together stories (could be verbatim), images, sound and music that produces considerable texture. The work may take inspiration from the stories that are collected within the programme, producing new work, or it may be verbatim. The work produced should connect with the overall theme and consider past, present and future in its content.

There should be a strong digital media presence, with at least some of the work web based, for example through work in progress on youtube. The final work should also be uploaded onto vimeo or similar.

We would expect the chosen artist to engage with participants, residents and audiences in all four wards but for the final work to be shown in the city centre. The commissioned artist will be responsible for installation and technical maintenance as well as all technical/ production needs.

Open Brief

For the Open Brief, we are open to and interested in new ideas and art forms, particularly those that are not covered elsewhere in the artists’ commissions. We are especially interested in arts forms or ways of engaging that are accessible to communities and individuals who haven’t previously engaged with the arts.

There are no guidelines for this commission beyond the information that is available in the programme overview. This is deliberately open as we wish to encourage artist’s own thinking and ideas on engagement. We do, however, expect the ideas to tie in with the overall vision of the programme and to have a strong sense of how the work will engage audiences and inspire interaction. We are looking for artists who can engage with the space to profile their own arts practice and alongside this, deliver a few participatory sessions.

The commissions provide a small number of artist’s opportunities to:

· Display/ produce work

· Hold performances

· Run participatory workshops

· Drop in sessions

· Demonstrations

· Show or develop work in progress

· Use the space for meetings

We have recently become a Creative Partnerships Enquiry School, and as part of that we are looking for a New Media and/or Film practitioner to work with a group of approximately 30 year 7/8 pupils who have mixed record of attending and engaging with school.

Our enquiry questions is:

Can we through working with New Media develop an approach that will re-engage more pupils with learning in school?

We are looking for an inspirational and dedicated practitioner who will help us develop the project in a student-led approach. We are hoping to learn strategies for our teaching and learning in how to engage all our students better. We are hoping to learn from the project how we can make working with new media and student voice sustainable in the long-term for the school.

Most of the contact time will be in the autumn term currently planned about half day a week for seven weeks before the autumn half-term, with some initial planning sessions with students and staff in the summer term.

We are also hoping to have a project launch in the autumn term.

Transforming the Quad

The Quad: an outdoor environment that will be transformed through working with:

· a Year 9 ICT class to create playground designs;

· Year 8 Design Technology classes to create large scale toy monsters covered in graffiti graphics;

· Year 9 Art classes to create huge pieces of ‘body adornment jewellery’ to adorn the building instead – created out of recycled material.

· Working with the Opening Minds Year 7 curriculum to create a party.

· A performing arts project is still be decided.

All of these ideas are linked to specific aspects of the Key Stage 3 curriculum in these subject areas. This supports the overall programme aims of:

· supporting teachers to explore creative approaches to curriculum topics;

· creating opportunities for students to become more involved in their learning;

· showcasing creative work in unusual contexts to inform thinking and design for the new school build.

The College are looking to work with a group of artists to:

· plan with the teachers so that are an integral part of the design and delivery of the projects and can ensure the projects link directly to the curriculum;

· work with students to incorporate their ideas into the projects;

· develop and deliver workshops that enables students and teachers to cerate high quality end products;

· install the pieces in the and around the Quad and ensure they meet all Health and Safety requirements;

The work needs to be planned during May and delivered in June and July.

Each of the 5 curriculum areas has £1000 of artist time to devise and deliver the projects. In addition there is an additional £1000 for overall planning, co-ordination and installation.

There is a materials budget of £1000. This is not necessarily split 5 ways as some projects may need more materials than others but this is to be negotiated between the teachers and artists.

The College are happy to consider applications from one artist / artist organisation to deliver the whole programme or individual artists who can deliver specific aspects of the programme. The trainings will be highly practical, as the participants' cases and concrete challenges are taken
as a starting point for learning. It is believed that the best way to learn strength based coaching
and appreciative inquiry is through working on concrete cases from the participants' own reality and
to get feedback on these attempts. Both courses will consist of a mix of short theoretical inputs,
concrete exercises, and group discussions.

These courses have been approved by the European Commissions' Grundtvig programme, as part of the

Organised by Surlingham Primary School, School of Creativity, this conference will be of interest to school leaders, class teachers, governors, advisers and others engaged in creating meaningful, relevant and challenging educational experiences for children.

This day will be a rare opportunity to participate in a guided discussion with colleagues, experts and children on the future of education and the challenges and opportunities created by the publication of the new primary curriculum due for implementation in September 2011.

After keynotes from ‘expert witnesses’ Chris Watkins from the Institute of Education and Luke Abbott, director of mantleoftheexpert.com, delegates will work in special interest groups, each with a inquiry focus. During the day there will be opportunities to draw on the expertise of Chris and Luke, the experience of children and staff from Surlingham Primary School and the knowledge, strengths and experiences of other delegates at the conference.

The aim of the conference is not to decide the outcome or ‘deliver’ a single point of view, but to gather together like-minded professionals and allow them the space, time and resources to discuss and share their thoughts and ideas for the future of education: A very rare opportunity.

About the project:
Our Y5 and Y1 children have been thinking about what makes good learning and have come up with the following ideas: painting, modeling, role play, drama, outside work, ICT stuff, discussion, and writing. They are ‘active learners’. They are particularly keen to learn more about theatre, drama, film and story making. There may be an opening for one versatile company or two artists, whose skills complement each other.
We want to engage children in different kinds of writing through this process: As practitioners you do not have to worry about this too much but it may help in your application if you can demonstrate an interest in creative learning.

This is our enquiry question.
How can we encourage children to become enthusiastic writers with a real sense of purpose and relevance for their writing?
Project details and objectives:
Y5 & 1 want to create a project during the summer term, with support from an artist who can help them with skills their every day teachers do not have.

This is what the children say:
We would like someone who listens and helps us to do things our own way; someone with a good imagination and lots of ideas. Someone calm, but confident.
We are excited, funny, sporty and artistic. We are hard working.
This is what the adults say:
We are keen to work with one or two practitioners who can help the children realise their vision of creating a theatre project (whether live or film based). The younger children are interested in stories and how they become films or animations, while the older group are fascinated by all the different roles that may be involved in producing a piece of film or theatre. The project is particularly exciting because we have no pre-conceived ideas of our end product and it is very much the result of whole class discussions. We hope that we will all learn new skills and have opportunities to be more creative and innovative.
The project can run as two parallel themes or be a joint project between the two classes.

Available budget to pay external partners:
The total budget for the project is £4,000 which will cover all project costs including partner's time, expenses, materials and all other project costs. The successful practitioner, the school, and the Creative Partnerships Agent will confirm the breakdown of the budget and the number of days during the early planning stages before a contract is signed.

We are aiming to start the community arts professional training programme in February to April 2010 with 4 introduction days which (funding pending) will lead onto the full programme. The aim of the programme is to support the development of community artists in Warwickshire.
As well as attending these days your commitment would also include keeping a journal, completing a basic portfolio AND prepare to work with others to deliver a community arts workshop (for your Open College Network accreditation aiming at ) OCN Level 3. And being prepared and able to travel to different venues around the county.

We also want eventually to create a standard of practise that should you complete the full training (subject to funding) will give you a 'stamp of approval' for working for Warwickshire County Council.

You will be expected to sign a commitment agreement for this introductory training the cost per person equates to around £350.00 per person of council tax payers money so...your commitment to starting and finishing the training is essential.

Birmingham Libraries are delighted to host an evening with Mobo awarding
rapper Akala, local poet Maryam Khan Shafique and former Birmingham Young
Poet Laureate Matt Windle. The event is part of the national MyVoice
project (MyVoice: is a project supported by the Dept for Communities &
Local Government, Creativity, Culture & Education and The Reading Agency.
The project was set up in 8 areas nationally to give young people the
opportunity to work with professional writers, poets and librarians to
offer them a platform to express their opinions on global issues of our
time). The project has been encouraging young people to explore complex
global issues through writing and each of the beneficiaries have been
paired up with a writer mentor to develop their writing skills and a local
librarian to broaden their reading experiences and knowledge of what
libraries offer.

The Birmingham MyVoice beneficiary was Maryam Khan Shafique and she has
been working with performance poet Akala on a collection of poems based on
the theme of identity. As part of the project, the three poets will be
using performance poetry to explore the theme of identity and
discuss/debate just 'Who are we in this new decade'. The event will be a
fresh, creative, and exciting space where young people can contribute and
get involved in the discussion about who they are and who we are! For more

An exploration of music, listening, meaning-making and creative pedagogy.

We aim to enable young children to become competent, enthused and empowered to use music as a way of expressing their ideas and communicating with one another.

This day will feature focussed project work, principles and visions for early childhood practice and leading international research into young children’s perceptions and musicality. We warmly invite musicians working in early childhood education, early childhood educators, managers and policy-makers to a thought-provoking and illuminating day. The seminar will also launch Sightlines’ new Youth Music-supported two year project ‘Sound Sense’.

Speakers

Professor Colwyn Trevarthen, who has recently co-authored the groundbreaking work ‘Communicative Musicality’ will explore the dynamics of children’s perceptions, senses and learning;

Nancy Stewart, Senior National Advisor for The National Strategy Team (Every Child a Talker) will explore educational practice supporting children’s vibrant communication.

Robin Duckett of Sightlines Initiative will describe the pedagogical approach which supports the co-constructed work of educators and musicians in project work - ‘Developing Environments of Enquiry’.

Catherine Reding, Musician, and Catherine Worton, Headteacher Trimdon Grange Nursery & Infant School, Durham will present ‘The Sounds of Leaping’, a project from the Youth Music-funded Drama of Sound project, in which various early childhood settings and musicians worked with children’s ideas, and explored different ways of exploring musicality.

The Sounds of Leaping

This work, with explores the reflective practice of a group of educators involved in a particular research focus, exploring children’s use of music and movement as expressive languages. It shows the evolution of children and adults thinking and experience, in the framework of a reflective cycle, and is an excellent tool for educators developing their reflective pedagogy.

“As educators, we wanted to develop our own competencies …we know that children are eager and ready to express themselves in many ways but that the language of musical expression can often be overlooked. As a team, we share in the belief that children are sociable and capable and full of curiosity and imagination. We want the school to be a place where the children can explore, develop and share their ideas to the full.

• How do children relate music and movement?

• What music can come from thinking, stories and movement?

• How could children create their own music using their movement ideas as a starting point?”

(This work is also presented on DVD available through Sightlines web bookshop. It will also be available at reduced cost to participants on the day.)

Communicative Musicality

explores the intrinsic musical nature of human interaction: it focuses on the rhythm and sympathy of musical expression in human communication from infancy. It demonstrates how speaking and moving in rhythmic musical ways is the essential foundation for all forms of communication, even the most refined and technically elaborated, just as it is for parenting, good teaching, creative work in the arts, and therapy to help handicapped or emotionally distressed persons.

Colwyn Trevarthen is Professor (Emeritus) of Child Psychology and Psychobiology at the University of Edinburgh, where he has taught since 1971. At Harvard in the 1960s, he began research on infant communication that led to the discovery of the innate capacities for human intersubjective communication. His work at Edinburgh in the 1980s on the development of mother-infant interactions pioneered a theory of cultural learning. His published work covers neuropsychology, brain development, infant communication child learning, and emotional health and methods of education and therapy. He is interested in the natural motives and emotions children have for learning in companionship, and how parents and teachers may best support needs of young children. Colwyn is currently contributing his specialism in child development, music and dance, neuroscience to the Perception-Movement-Action Research Centre, Edinburgh, in addition to world-wide consultancy and in discussing Communicative Musicality.

Expects educating settings to develop reflective practice, seeing children as leaders in their own exploration and learning, recognising that educational practice is at its best when children’s ideas and dispositions are seen supported and developed

Sound Sense: Project Approach and Ethos

We will work with the children involved in Sound Sense by observing their interests and fascinations, and developing these ideas in a musical way. The children's ideas will shape what will take place: we are particularly interested in enabling children to express and develop their own ideas using music as a 'language of expression'. Educators and musician–colleagues, supported by Sightlines mentors, will work together to build new opportunities for the children’s enquiries and expression.

Centre for Advance Training: Outreach Workshops

The West Midlands Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) is based at DanceXchange, Birmingham. The CAT course is part of the national Music and Dance Scheme, and is designed for young people between 11 and 16 who have passion, creativity, commitment, talent or potential in Dance, but need support to pursue their desire and ambition. DanceXchange, in partnership with sampad South Asian Arts, run the CAT course and offer high quality training in Contemporary dance, and the South Asian dance styles of Kathak and Bharatanatyam.

As part of the Outreach Programme, the West Midlands CAT is offering free dance workshops to specialist schools, youth groups and dance schools in the West Midlands region. This will involve a half-day taster workshop in the three dance styles (Contemporary, Kathak & Bharatanatyam) that the West Midlands CAT offers. These workshops are fully funded by the DCSF and are offered on a first come, first served basis. The workshop will look to boost awareness and understanding of the CAT course, and encourage gifted and talented students to audition for the 2010 programme.

YDE Stride! is an annual leadership and development programme aimed at young people wishing to explore the many career opportunities available within the dance sector. YDE Stride! offers a rare opportunity to participate in an action-packed residential, devise projects with skilled and professional guidance, and develop experience and knowledge of the dance sector through a work placement and support of a mentor, all of which aim to help participants get a head start with their career in dance.

YDE Stride! is a national programme delivered at a regional level by YDE Stride! 'hosts' who have all planned various exciting activities, workshops and training sessions for the YDE Stride! 2010 participants. Three hosts have been selected to deliver the YDE Stride! 2010 programme: Dance4, Dance South West, and East London Dance with Sadler's Wells.

YDE Stride! is for young people aged between 14 and 19 years old*, with an entrepreneurial spirit and creative problem-solving skills.

We are looking for a Creative Practitioner to help us plan and develop our school garden. We are looking for a Landscape Architect, Landscaper, Outdoor practitioner etc. who will work with our design team, a class of year 5 and their teacher.

We would like to explore the following question:

“How can we use a live project to enhance our teaching and learning in school and link it to the curriculum?”

The school has acquired a piece of land which it is planning to develop into a garden. The land is currently occupied by an empty house, which we are hoping is going to come done in the spring half term.

We would like to work with a designer/landscape architect to work with us through the whole process of re-imagining and planning the new site. By then end of the project we hope to have a plan & budget which we can put to the school to be implemented. We want to use this plan to fundraise and apply for sponsorship and funding.

We can see lots of learning opportunities where we can use this project to bring the curriculum alive, but are really looking forward to hearing your ideas how we could link this to learning.

The project needs to start in January, we are hoping to start planning the week after interview.

The Project will need to happen on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays, over a number of weeks.

This project will be a research project to see how we can become co-constructors in Teaching and Learning and bring new approaches to learning into the school.

Following the great success of the T S Eliot Prize Shadowing Scheme, the Poetry Book Society has launched a new Teachers' Prize.

For the past four years the T S Eliot Prize Shadowing Scheme has invited secondary school students to shadow the judging panel for the T S Eliot Prize - ‘the world’s top poetry award’. Students have the chance to read, study and debate some of the best poetry published in the previous year.

Now, for the first time teachers can take part in the Shadowing Scheme Competition themselves, by writing a 500 word review of one of the titles which have been shortlisted for the 2009 T S Eliot Prize.

The Shadowing Scheme, run in partnership with emagazine, an A Level magazine published by the English and Media Centre, also comprises a poll to find out whom the students think should win the 2009 T S Eliot Prize and a competition for the best individual student’s rationale for their choice of winner.

Background
Creative Partnerships is the Government’s flagship creative learning programme, designed to develop the skills of young people across England, raising their aspirations and equipping them for their futures. We foster innovative, long-term partnerships between schools and creative professionals, including architects, scientists, multimedia developers and artists. These partnerships inspire young people, teachers and creative professionals to challenge how they work and experiment with new ideas.

Young people develop the skills they need to perform well not only in exams and extra-curricular activities, but also in the workplace and wider society.

Context
The school is a relatively small technology and humanities college with approximately 650 boys serving the Longbridge district of Birmingham. A small number of the pupils are from minority ethnic communities and standards on entry are broadly average. About one fifth of pupils, an average proportion, are on the special needs register. The school was one of the first to be designated a specialist technology college in 1995. There are extensive links with other schools within the south western districts of Birmingham and shared sports facilities with the adjacent girls' school.
The school became part of the Change Schools programme in September 2008. The Change Schools programme builds on Creative Partnerships current practice to bring about sustainable change in approaches to teaching and learning. We have made a firm commitment to putting creativity at the heart of our improvement plans and to educating children and young people for a creative future.

Focus, Aims and Requirements
The Change Schools programme focuses on generating long-term dialogue about creative teaching and learning, and how the school can become a more effective creative learning environment. Our focus is to explore in depth how we can develop the conditions where creativity can thrive. Can we through engaging with outside professionals, raise achievement and make teaching and learning more exciting and relevant to life after school?

For our first project this year, we are looking for a musician or a group of musician to work with our Year 10 BTEC Music group on ‘Working as a Musical Ensemble’. We are looking for somebody who understands collaborative learning, and acts in supporting the students on their journey of discovery on all aspects of the project.

The project aims to encompass all aspects of leading in working within a musical ensemble including;
- Understanding different musical ensembles and the roles within them
- Knowing how to devise, plan and prepare for a performance as part of an ensemble
- Being able to present an ensemble performance
- We would like to see a performance at the end of the project.

The Key aims of the project are to;
- Give pupils and staff the opportunity to learn and build a project together.
- Enable staff and pupils to explore new ideas and take ownership of their work.
- Increase opportunities for pupils and staff to explore what it means to be an independent learner yet develop their ability to work as a team

Selection and application:
As well as someone who can commit to the dates we’re looking for exceptional creative practitioners who have;
- An understanding of or an interest in how people learn
- A commitment to genuine collaboration
- An ability to reflect and communicate
- A willingness to learn and share skills
- A sense of humour
- Have an enhanced CRB clearance less than 18months old and Public Liability Insurance of 5 million

A small number of the pupils are from minority ethnic communities and standards on entry are broadly average. About one fifth of pupils, an average proportion, are on the special needs register. The school was one of the first to be designated a specialist technology college in 1995. There are extensive links with other schools within the south western districts of Birmingham and shared sports facilities with the adjacent girls' school.

The school became part of the Change Schools programme in September 2008. The Change Schools programme builds on Creative Partnerships current practice to bring about sustainable change in approaches to teaching and learning. We have made a firm commitment to putting creativity at the heart of our improvement plans and to educating children and young people for a creative future.

Focus, Aims and Requirements

The Change Schools programme focuses on generating long-term dialogue about creative teaching and learning, and how the school can become a more effective creative learning environment. Our focus is to explore in depth how we can develop the conditions where creativity can thrive. Can we through engaging with outside professionals, raise achievement and make teaching and learning more exciting and relevant to life after school?

For our first project this year, we are looking for a creative practitioner to work with both a year 8 Science and year 8 Maths group. We are looking for somebody who understands collaborative learning, and acts in supporting the students on their journey of discovery on all aspects of the project. There will be many opportunities to ‘join up’ both strands throughout the course of the project with both groups and their staff, with additional support from Heads of Department.

The project envisages the development one or more of the following curriculum topics through the practical application of theoretical skills in both Science and Maths;

- Environment, behaviour, heat

- Light, Sound, movement

- Reaction, rocks

The Key aims of the project are to;

- In Science, engage and motivate students through the practical and ‘real world’ exploration of theoretical and applied skills

- In Maths, develop opportunities for the application of acquired mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding in a problem finding and solving environment

- Develop creativity in staff and students

- Develop a sustainable model through CPD and partnership with creative artists

- Enable students to see the practical application of Maths and Science beyond the curriculum

- Leave a legacy of sustainable creative practice for staff after the project has finished

Selection and application:

As well as someone who can commit to the dates we’re looking for exceptional creative practitioners who have;

- An understanding of or an interest in how people learn

- A commitment to genuine collaboration

- An ability to reflect and communicate

- A willingness to learn and share skills

- A sense of humour

- Have an enhanced CRB clearance less than 18months old and Public Liability Insurance of 5 million

Project outline:

The project will be running the following dates;

Times:

9.00-11.15h Planning and work with a small group of students/staff.

11.15-13.15h Project delivery

Practitioners must be able to commit to these dates and in addition, there will be two days planning over the running of the project and 1 day planning & reflection in school.

Fee: £1,590 + up to £ 500 materials budget

6sessions @£160 = £960

2 planning days @£200= £400

1 day planning in school= £230

Selection will take place on Thursday 17. December from 14.15 and will involve;

- Delivery of a 15 minute ‘hands-on’ workshop to 16 year 8 pupils

- A formal interview with a panel comprising both students and teachers

Fee for attending session and interview will be £50

Brief

The project is aimed at diverse young people aged 16 -19 from inner city Birmingham (some of whom are not in education, employment and training) but who have some interest/ability in the arts. The project will focus on ideas of guerrilla craft, DIY Craft and Craftivism - with a view to developing a young people led craft collective which will then organise a series of interventions throughout the city.

Application Process

Rather than a formal interview process Craftspace is sending out targeted approaches to makers/artists and would like to receive a CV and an expression of interest with a simple outline of approach if possible (no more than 1 side of A4) by Fri 27th November. Craftspace will then conduct some telephone discussions and as appropriate invite artists/ makers to a planning /discussion event on Monday 14th December. We are interested in recruiting 3 or 4 makers for the initial taster weekend and follow on support and then others to work along side the collective as appropriate. All selected makers/ artists will need to be CRB checked.

Fee
£500 for the initial taster event, to include planning, delivery and expenses. Materials will be paid additionally. All other sessions will be paid at £250 day including expenses.

Planning
We have scheduled an initial planning session for Mon 14 December. Please indicate your availability for this and the taster event in January in your application.
